At present, China is in a period of important strategic opportunities for economic development. A large number of infrastructures such as long-distance transnational oil pipelines, large-scale nuclear power plants, supercritical thermal power plants, and high-speed railway projects are successively constructed and operated.
The construction of the large facilities bring new challenges to the safety assessment of materials with full scale, which normally used in complicated structure. Moreover, the materials properties would behave differently because of the coupling effect introduced by the real service environment. It is of strategic significance to carry out  safety assessment of  engineering materials with large scale in real/approximately service condition. Thus, Materials Service Safety Assessment Facilities (MSAF)  are designed to carry out the full-scale material /structure safety assessment combing the coupling effect introduced by the real service environment. MSAF focuses on typical engineering materials, typical service environments, failure modes and key failure issues. MSAF is constructed by University of Science and Technology Beijing, and jointly constructed by Shenyang Institute of Metal Research of Chinese Academy of Sciences.

The construction content of MSAF includes the following eight sets of facilities.

1.Multiphase Flow Environment Test Facility
2.Atmospheric Corrosion Environment Test Facility
3.High Temperature and High Pressure Vapor Environment Test Facility
4.Mechano-chemical Coupled Environment Test Facility
5.Extreme/multi-factor Environment Test Facility
6.Special-Regional Environment Test Facility
7.Materials Damage Simulation Platform
8.Opening and Sharing Platform
